Late Night Lanterns May 23, 2007

It was our first firecracker stay up late night of the season.
We needed a night light.

I think she liked it. I’m not sure if she liked the craft or the ice inside.

So here’s how you do it:

Recycle a can. Rinse it out and remove the label.

Fill it with water and freeze it.

Make a design, not too complicated, these are kids and dots…

Once the ice is solid. Transfer your pattern by knocking holes into the can with an awl, chisel or a nail with a mallet.

(This might be the grown up part.)

Allow the ice to melt to get in out. Dry the can and paint with a rust proof paint, if desired.

Hang by a wire, or not. Insert a candle and wait for dark.

Ohhhhahhhhh. Lovely.

Makes one five year old I know H-A-P-P-Y!

Eat hot dogs (leaves and twig variety), toast marshmallows, stay up way late and sparklers too?!?!

Next we’re going to have candy for breakfast.

(Not.)

We may be getting in the season of the flip flop but being five, Mad’s been getting eager to learn how to tie her shoes.

Putting the fact she’s been tying more knots than a boy scout ever since she could walk to good use, I found this great site with the step by step guides to various knots – including this: the “World’s Fastest Shoelace Knot”.

Popsicle season is upon us.

I think when this box is done I may consider making my own though.

Happy Birthday Baz! May 1, 2007

I can’t believe it!

I’m back again at celebrating the best day of my life.

The birth of Sebastian was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It was graceful and calm. I felt empowered and complete. Those two years have gone by so quickly.

He is such a big boy now. And to prove it my weekly newsletter from babycenter.com is now calling him a preschooler! I think that was the toughest to take. All these memories and the disbelief, especially when I look at Mad, that he too will be so big and independent in such a short time….
